Not So Silent Night

Well, the title says it all.
We had our home insurance reps come
to access the damage from the burst water pipe.
The good news is my carpet is salvagable.
The bad news is my scraproom
was ripped to shreds.
The beadboard/wainscoating was torn from the walls,
which ripped the paint off the walls.
My poor husband had to take apart
the very same cabinetry
he had put together
only less than 2 years ago.
With all the damage that was done,
all my supplies, my scrapbooks, my computer were untouched.
I am so thankful for this!

So right now there are 10 industrial-sized fans
blowing at full strength
sounding like the world's loudest wind tunnel
in hopes of drying out the basement in a couple of days.

In a mere matter of minutes it went from this
(taken last February):

To this (taken 5 minutes ago):

Again, in the grand scheme of things,
I do know how much worse it could have been.
As a family, we have been to hell and back,
so this is a mere blip on the radar.
It just sucks royally.
Thanks for your supportive comments and emails,
they really do help :)

  4. If it's any consolation, the "after" photo of your scraproom still looks better than my tornado of a scrap area. :)

  8. oof, I got behind on blogs over Christmas and I missed this. I AM SO SORRY. We had a water heater bottom out when we lived in CO and I had to throw a ton of my paper away, but it was mostly contained to one area where it crept under the wall... but you're right, this is a huge pain but not a family disaster. So good to keep that in perspective!

I'll pray that it's restored to all it's glory for you really soon so you'll be scrappin it up and posting beautiful AFTER photos again! Wow...so lucky girl.

  17. Jody,
Forgive me I read [and am inspired] regularly and never comment but after reading this I had to.
I am so sorry for all the damage but SO SO glad to read that none of your artwork or computer were ruined and of course your supplies.

A few years ago I went to pick my son up from school and just as we arrived there was a freak hailstorm.
We arrived arrived home 15 minutes later with a layer of white covering the ground and houses everywhere! [December in Australia a little unexpected]
We rushed inside and all I could hear was pouring water. Tiles on the roof had been smashed and a stream of water was pouring from my light fitting in my scraproom and down the walls.
I had spent the day in there sorting old photos into piles on the floor :o(

Hope everything is repaired or replaced very soon and the fans do their magic and leave even faster.

    It does indeed suck royally.

    Rach :o)

On the bright side, you are insanely blessed to have a scraproom like that. I cannot even imagine how heavenly that would be! Wow.

Hope everything gets back to normal soon.
