Happy Valentine's Day!
In honor of this love-filled day,
I can only think back to last year on this day
when Erin met Kendall Schmidt from the music group
Big Time Rush for the very first time.
What an impact that day had on her life
and his little act of kindness will never be forgotten,
by her or by me either.
Here is the story to remind you:
http://jodywenke.blogspot.com/2011/02/big-time-crush.html
Middle school has not been very easy for Erin.
While most 11 year old girls are very extroverted
and into clothes, make-up and being popular.
My girl is on the shy side, but sweet, funny and adorably quirky.
All she wants is for her peers to be nice to her
and lately, they are anything but.
Heartbreaking as a parent, to say the least.
There are issues that I can't discuss on the blog
but these reasons have made it difficult for me
to find the joy in blogging and scrapbooking as well.
But in late November of last year, Erin found out that
Big Time Rush
was going to be doing a signing of their new CD
at a mall less than an hour away for the first 800 people
who bought their CD.
So early that morning, I drove Erin and her sister Megan
to hopefully be one of the 800 lucky ones to get to meet the group.
We got there @8:00 AM and we were so early, that they were #25 and #26!
While waiting in line for what would be hours,
you tend to revert to childhood and sit on rides
that are made for toddlers:
Luckily, my mom lives close, so we went for a visit.
We ventured back around 2:00 PM, and the line already
had at least 100 girls on it.
Every so often, one girl would think they saw the band,
which would set off pandemonium
in the sound of hundreds of shreiking girls.
Quite the lovefest ;)
Here is Erin, resting while waiting in line,
holding a photo of their first meeting
that she wrote on and hoped to give to Kendall:
Now it is @ 4:30 and the group makes their appearance,
the line has literally snaked it's way around the mall
and there are easily 800 girls in it.
Can you imagine having to sign all of those CDs?
So we can tell with that many people in line,
you get about 5 seconds with each member,
there are security guards telling each child
to move along if they are taking too much time.
Understandable, unless it's your own child :::wink:::
So they finally get to the front of the line,
Megan says the exact same thing to each member,
"I like your smile!"
And Erin in hopes of building up her seconds with Kendall,
blows by Carlos first, avoiding any eye contact. lol:
Then Logan calls out
"Hey, don't you want me to sign your CD?":
It was no different with James (who is hidden by Megan):
And then it happens...
Erin is face to face again with Kendall:
She hands him the photo of the two of them and asks him,
"Do you remember meeting me last Valentine's Day?"
(How cute was his reaction?)
He starts to tell her ,
"Yes, I do..."
And before he can finish the sentence...
her 5 seconds are up and she is whisked away.
He is left waving to her.:
The funniest part of all of this was my husband met us in line
and I gave him the video camera to tape this little meeting.
You can hear him talking on the video to a security guard
who is telling him he can't stand where he is, he has to move,
"Listen man, my wife is gonna kill me if I don't get this on tape!"
I have him trained well ;)
All in all, it was a great day, another one for Erin's memory bank.
Thank you once again Kendall Schmidt, for making my girl so happy!
Happy Valentine's Day to you all!
