R.I.P.

1968.
I remember it vividly.
My sister, myself and our friends would go outside onto our back deck
and we would play all the Monkee albums on our portable record player.
We would stand on the picnic table benches and have dance contests.
Sometimes we would even act out the TV show characters.
I was always Davy.

Nothing like feeling old when your first crush passes away
of a heart attack at the age of 66.
Did you hear that?
It's the sound of every little girl's heart
who grew up in the 1960's breaking just a little.

R.I.P. Davy Jones
Thanks to you I have had a lifelong fascination
for short, cute, hairless-chested Englishmen.

A Girl, Her Hat And The Duck Pond

Happy Friday!
I wanted to post some photos of Erin
that I took last weekend when I took her to the local duck pond.

Her Aunt Sheila recently took her shopping
and Erin came home with this fabulous hat!
It's almost as tall as she is :)

And it framed her sweet face beautifully:

Since my blogging break somebody might have gotten braces
and I may have actually seen a smile more than once:

Oh, how I love that smile.

Have a great weekend!

Big Time Crush -Part 2

Happy Valentine's Day!
In honor of this love-filled day,
I can only think back to last year on this day
when Erin met Kendall Schmidt from the music group
Big Time Rush for the very first time.

What an impact that day had on her life
and his little act of kindness will never be forgotten,
by her or by me either.
Here is the story to remind you:
http://jodywenke.blogspot.com/2011/02/big-time-crush.html

Middle school has not been very easy for Erin.
While most 11 year old girls are very extroverted
and into clothes, make-up and being popular.
My girl is on the shy side, but sweet, funny and adorably quirky.
All she wants is for her peers to be nice to her
and lately, they are anything but.
Heartbreaking as a parent, to say the least.
There are issues that I can't discuss on the blog
but these reasons have made it difficult for me
to find the joy in blogging and scrapbooking as well.

But in late November of last year, Erin found out that Big Time Rush
was going to be doing a signing of their new CD
at a mall less than an hour away for the first 800 people
who bought their CD.
So early that morning, I drove Erin and her sister Megan
to hopefully be one of the 800 lucky ones to get to meet the group.
We got there @8:00 AM and we were so early, that they were #25 and #26!
While waiting in line for what would be hours,
you tend to revert to childhood and sit on rides
that are made for toddlers:

Luckily, my mom lives close, so we went for a visit.
We ventured back around 2:00 PM, and the line already
had at least 100 girls on it.
Every so often, one girl would think they saw the band,
which would set off pandemonium
in the sound of hundreds of shreiking girls.
Quite the lovefest ;)

Here is Erin, resting while waiting in line,
holding a photo of their first meeting
that she wrote on and hoped to give to Kendall:

Now it is @ 4:30 and the group makes their appearance,
the line has literally snaked it's way around the mall
and there are easily 800 girls in it.
Can you imagine having to sign all of those CDs?

So we can tell with that many people in line,
you get about 5 seconds with each member,
there are security guards telling each child
to move along if they are taking too much time.
Understandable, unless it's your own child :::wink:::

So they finally get to the front of the line,
Megan says the exact same thing to each member,
"I like your smile!"

And Erin in hopes of building up her seconds with Kendall,
blows by Carlos first, avoiding any eye contact. lol:

Then Logan calls out "Hey, don't you want me to sign your CD?":

It was no different with James (who is hidden by Megan):

And then it happens...
Erin is face to face again with Kendall:

She hands him the photo of the two of them and asks him,
"Do you remember meeting me last Valentine's Day?"

(How cute was his reaction?)
He starts to tell her , "Yes, I do..."

And before he can finish the sentence...
her 5 seconds are up and she is whisked away.
He is left waving to her.:

The funniest part of all of this was my husband met us in line
and I gave him the video camera to tape this little meeting.
You can hear him talking on the video to a security guard
who is telling him he can't stand where he is, he has to move,
"Listen man, my wife is gonna kill me if I don't get this on tape!"
I have him trained well ;)

All in all, it was a great day, another one for Erin's memory bank.
Thank you once again Kendall Schmidt, for making my girl so happy!

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

A Couple Of Things...

Hi-
I still haven't decided if the blog should stay or go.
I love that I have a diary/journal of the last 4 years
and I think I would miss that part terribly.
What to do...what to do...

So in the meantime, here are a couple of things I would like to share:

1) I have finally figured out how to reply after someone leaves a comment!
This is big news!
I didn't realize I had the capability to do this
by just checking/unchecking a box.
But don't ask me how I did it, because I have already forgotten how :/

2) In between watching a bunch of commercials last night,
there was some sort of sports game on played with a brown leather ball.
Alot of clapping, cheering and swearing occurred.
Here is my biggest pet peeve about sports fans:

"We won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Um, no.
The team you love just won.
You screamed like a banshee,
you ate like a pig
and you drank like a fish.
They played their asses off
and they played their hearts out.
And they won.
You only watched.
;)

3) Anyone who has been reading this blog might recall
that I have had Photoshop Elements installed for almost 2 years now.
But I am the laziest person on the planet
and never learned how to properly use it.
I love to use Picnik to edit my photos instead.
And sure enough anything I love goes out of business:

Exhibit A:

Now what?, is right.
Boo.

And if that didn't cut me to the bone,
the place I printed all my photos out closed after 62 years!
Scrapbookpictures.com, you were the bomb!
Such great quality and service, you will be missed!

Exhibit B:

4) For the last couple of months since I have stopped scrapping,
I was extrememly busy editing all the photos that went by the wayside
while I was obsessing over scrapbooking.
In all, I edited over 1,700 photos
and put them all into my O.C.D. chronologically-ordered photo albums.
Here is my prized collection:

From 1975-Dec 2011, I am completely up to date!
I must tell you, it feels SO good to cross that off my to do list.

5) After having a piece of crap flip phone for the longest time,
my husband got me
...........drumroll please............

...................an iphone!
ilove it!
But what ilove the most is playing "Scramble with Friends"
Hit me up and we'll play: JWenke

6) And lastly, I was late to the party,
but I am totally and thoroughly addicted to Pinterest!
So many great things on there,
I recently did a mini remodel of my kitchen
and I will post the "pinspired" redo very soon.
I have a Follow Me on Pinterest button
at the top right of my blog,
I would love to have you follow me and
I'd love to follow you as well!

Have a great day!
